Drive Norvell Bryant Highway on a Tuesday in August and you can watch the pattern from the truck window. A silver sedan pulls out of the Central Ridge Library lot around eleven. A pair of walkers loops the pond at Central Ridge Community Park before the heat sets in. By six, the parking lot at 220 Barbeque is doing its work. None of these people drove more than a mile and a half. That is the Beverly Hills summer, and it runs on a radius most out-of-towners never notice.
If you already live off Civic Circle, Roosevelt, or one of the ridge streets to the north, you know the shape of the day. What follows is less a discovery guide and more a defense of the routine, with a few dates and addresses worth pinning up on the fridge.
What actually sits inside a mile of Civic Circle
The compression here is unusual for Citrus County. Most of the county's civic life is spread out along US 41 and SR 44. In Beverly Hills, the important stuff clusters.
- Central Ridge Community Park, 592 Lake Beverly Drive. Shuffleboard, tennis, a walking loop, and, according to the county parks department, the largest horseshoe compound in Florida. The complex features 24 regulation pits, which is not a number you throw around casually.
- Central Ridge Community Center, 77 Civic Circle. The county runs Summer Quest camps here across three age brackets, ages 5 to 7, 8 to 10, and 11 to 13, running 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at $35 per session.
- Central Ridge Library, 425 West Roosevelt Boulevard. Free programs almost every week, from Happy Tails Youth Reading with Therapy Dogs from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to the Ridge Readers Book Club on the last Wednesday of the month from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
- ArtSea Alcove Ceramic Studio, 3993 N. Lecanto Highway. Runs a rolling Summer S'Kool series with themed sessions starting at 8:30 a.m., including Retro Video Gamer on July 13 and an Ice Cream Social on July 21.
That is a park, a rec center, a library branch, and an arts studio, all within a bike ride of each other. The thesis of this post is simple. You do not need to plan a Beverly Hills summer around trips to Crystal River or Inverness. The infrastructure is already here, and most of it is free or close to it.
A week you can walk to
Here is one way the calendar assembles itself. Adjust to taste.
Monday morning. The Beverly Hills Shuffleboard Club welcomes new members at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays for a free day of play at Central Ridge Community Park, but Monday is a good day to walk the loop before then and scout the pond.
Tuesday. Library curbside pickup runs from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays at all Citrus County branches. If the kids are enrolled in Summer Quest, this is a straight two-block trip from the center to the library and back.
Wednesday. Shuffleboard at 1 p.m. Central Ridge Park. Bring a water bottle. If you want a longer afternoon, cycle down to the Hernando trailhead and get on the Withlacoochee State Trail before the storms build.
Thursday. Ceramic Studio drop-in for kids, or a solo trip if the studio has an open session. Then dinner at whichever North Lecanto spot you have not visited this month.
Friday. This is the night to sit on a porch somewhere. There are options below.
Saturday. Farmers market and craft-fair season overlaps with the recreation association's calendar. The venue hosts events like craft fairs and farmer's markets throughout the year, and the community bulletin at the library is the most reliable place to find dates.
Sunday. Rest, or drive fifteen minutes down US 41 to Inverness for the trail mural photo and a scoop of ice cream. Then home before the afternoon storms.
The North Lecanto question
Every Beverly Hills household has a private ranking of the North Lecanto Highway restaurants. Nobody agrees. What is not in dispute is the lineup itself, which is denser than a town of this size has any right to expect.
Yelp's July 2026 roundup of best restaurants near Beverly Hills, FL 34465 leads with Bangkok Thai, Los Magueyes Beverly Hills, Papa Willies Bar and Grill, New England Pastry & Cafe, Breakfast Station, Jimmy T's New York Deli, Moschello's II, and Mariana's. That is a Thai kitchen, a Mexican dining room, a bar and grill, a bakery-cafe, a breakfast counter, a New York deli, an Italian spot, and one more, all within a short drive of Civic Circle.
Two of them are worth naming with addresses because they set the poles of the local dining scene. 220 Barbeque sits at 4493 N Lecanto Hwy, and Bangkok Thai is a short block down at 4025 N Lecanto Hwy. Between the two, you have covered smoke and lemongrass in the same evening, which is a strange thing to say about a Citrus County ridge community, and yet here we are.
The county tourism office puts it plainly. Down any road, you'll find "can't miss" favorites like Cuban and Thai and traditional favorites like southern Barbeque and the classic American burger.
That is the shape of the North Lecanto strip in one sentence. It is not a food scene in the Instagram sense. It is a rotation, and the rotation is deep enough to carry a summer without repetition.
When you want to leave, but only a little
The best trip out of Beverly Hills in the summer is the one that lets you be back in an hour. That points at the Withlacoochee State Trail, and specifically at the segment north of Inverness.
The trail itself is a serious piece of infrastructure. At 47 miles, the Withlacoochee State Trail is one of the longest paved rail-trails in Florida, with generally flat terrain and many access points, ideal for cycling, running, walking and skating. The trail is enjoyed by more than 350,000 hikers, cyclists, skaters, runners, and horseback riders every year. From Beverly Hills, the practical entry is the Hernando trailhead. Mile 33.3 on the standard trail log puts you about seven miles north of the Inverness caboose and within striking distance of Citrus Springs on the other side.
If you want the postcard, ride south into Inverness. The Friends of the Withlacoochee State Trail relocated and restored a 1925 caboose for the Inverness trailhead, added interpretive signage and bluebird nest boxes, and a favorite photo spot is in front of the iconic mural in Inverness, which features some of the wildlife that can be seen along the trail.
One local footnote worth knowing before you clip in. Electric assist bikes are not permitted per Florida State Parks. If your neighbor just bought an e-bike for the trail, they are going to be disappointed the first time a ranger drives by. Save them the conversation.
For the deeper hike crowd, the Citrus Hiking Trail loop starts about twenty minutes down the road. The outer loop is 43.3 miles made up of four loops, the shortest of which is 7.5 miles, with a $5 day use fee at the trailhead. That is not a summer-afternoon commitment, but it is nice to know it is there when the weather cools in October.
The summer routine says something about the market
Here is the part that only really shows up if you have watched the neighborhood for a few years. The Beverly Hills day-to-day is not built around waterfront access or a downtown square. It is built around a civic cluster. That is unusual in Citrus County, where most communities orient around a river, a lake, or a highway. If you are already here, the payoff is that a summer week takes almost no planning. If you are considering the neighborhood for a family member or a retirement move, the payoff is different: the walk-radius density is the amenity, and it is not something the listing photos will tell you.
A quick housekeeping note for locals. The Beverly Hills Recreation Association pool is typically closed during December and January due to colder temperatures and open for residents during other months. Plan your winter guests accordingly. That is one of those details that never makes it onto the welcome packet.
